Abstract
Throughout the history of the Church, the spirit of ecumenism has been one of key aspect in efforts to maintain the unity of Christians amidst theological, social, and cultural diversity. However, in this postmodern era, the church faces various challenges in the form of social conflicts and theological differences. This paper examines the role of the ecumenical movement in preserving the unity of the church amid the complex challenges of contemporary social and theological conflicts.
Ecumenism is not merely perceived as institutional collaboration, but as the embodiment of a faith testimony that unites Christians in love, service, and the pursuit of justice. Through critical reflection on global and local church experiences, as well as a review of theological and social literature, this paper argues that unity in being is not a utopian ideal, but a prophetic vocation of the church in the contemporary era.
This article seeks to examine how the church can uphold the spirit of ecumenism amid contemporary challenges, and how it may serve as an agent of peace and unity in an increasingly polarized world.
